This course has been designed and developed to provide delegates with the knowledge and skills required to perform an internal audit of part of an occupational health and safety management system based on ISO 45001, or equivalent, and report on the effective implementation and maintenance of the management system in accordance with ISO 19011.

Prerequisites

Please note that this course is designed for delegates who have prior knowledge of occupational health and safety management systems, knowledge of occupational health and safety management principles and concepts, and the requirements of ISO 45001.

Delegates who are not familiar with the purpose and intent of the ISO 45001, and the requirements of ISO 45001 shall attend a Certified Foundation Training course before attending this course.
Note: To meet the full training requirements for initial certification as an Internal Auditor, delegates must complete a Certified ISO 45001:2018 Foundation OHSMS training course and ISO 45001:2018 Internal Auditor OHSMS training course.

Explain the purpose of an occupational health and safety management systems and the business benefits of improving Occupational Health and Safety Management System performance.

Outline the model of process-based occupational health and safety management system and the structure and content of ISO 45001, referring to the PDCA cycle as appropriate.

Outline the relationship between the occupational health and safety management system purpose, external and internal issues, relevant interested parties’ relevant requirements, scope, leadership and worker participation, OH&S policy, OH&S objectives, resources, operation, monitoring, measurement, analysis, evaluation and performance improvement, incident, nonconformity and corrective action, and the significance of these for OHSMS auditors.

Describe typical workplace hazards and operational controls that may be implemented in order to manage OH&S risks and comply with applicable statutory and legal requirements and other requirements, and the significance of these for OH&S auditors. Outline the requirements for internal audit, as described in ISO 45001 clause 9.2

Define an internal occupational health & safety management system audit, including: The terms and definitions used in auditing, referencing ISO 19011 and ISO 45001 as appropriate; typical objectives for internal occupational health and safety management system audits, including determination of conformance, evaluation of capability, evaluation of effectiveness and identification of potential improvement, and suggest how these different types of audit can contribute to the maintenance and improvement of occupational health and safety management systems; The difference between the internal auditor’s role and the regulatory role of evaluating legal compliance.

Explain the role and responsibilities of an auditor to plan, conduct, report and follow up an internal occupational health and safety management system audit in accordance with 19011.
