This course has been designed and developed to provide delegates with the knowledge and skills required to perform an internal audit of part of Environmental Management System based on ISO 14001or, equivalent, and report on the effective implementation and maintenance of the management system in accordance with ISO 19011.

Prerequisites

• 

  Please note that this course is designed for delegates who have prior knowledge of Environmental Management System, knowledge of Environmental Management principles and concepts, and the requirements of ISO 14001.

• 

  Delegates who are not familiar with the purpose and intent of the ISO 14001, and the requirements of ISO 14001 shall attend a Certified Foundation Training course before attending this course.

Note: To meet the full training requirements for initial certification as an EMS Internal Auditor, delegates must complete a Certified ISO 14001:2015 Foundation EMS training course and ISO 14001:2015 Internal Auditor EMS training course.

Upon completion

• 

  Explain the purpose of an Environmental Management System and the business benefits of improving Environmental Management System performance.

• 

  Outline the model of process-based Environmental Management System and the structure and content of ISO 14001, referring to the PDCA cycle as appropriate.

• 

  Outline the relationship between the Environmental Management System, system purpose, external and internal issues, relevant interested parties, relevant requirements, scope, leadership and worker participation, EMS policy, EMS objectives, resources, operation, monitoring, measurement, analysis, evaluation and performance improvement, incident, nonconformity and corrective action, and the significance of these for EMS auditors.

• 

  Define an internal Environmental Management System audit, including: The terms and definitions used in auditing, referencing ISO 19011 and ISO 14001 as appropriate; Typical objectives for internal Environmental Management System system audits, including determination of conformance, evaluation of capability, evaluation of effectiveness and identification of potential improvement, and suggest how these different types of audit can contribute to the maintenance and improvement of Environmental Management System; The difference between the internal auditor’s role and the regulatory role of evaluating legal compliance.

• 

  Explain the role and responsibilities of an auditor to plan, conduct, report and follow up an internal Environmental Management System audit in accordance with 19011.

• 

  Plan, conduct, report and follow up an internal audit of part of an Environmental Management System system based on ISO 14001 and in accordance with ISO 19011.
